NextEra Energy Marketing owns and operates mitigation bank projects across Texas, South Carolina, and Maryland. Portfolio conservation is currently over 4,000 acres of wetlands and 10 miles of streams with permanent protection of each project site through a conservation easement.

Protecting the Environment
Permanent protection of natural resources occurs by recording a conservation easement on the mitigation bank property in perpetuity. Site protection is managed by long-term stewards to ensure successful longevity of the restored habitats.
Mitigation Credits
Credits generated will reduce uncertainties on behalf of the USACE when gauging the ecological benefit and success of required mitigation, decrease the time necessary to permit projects with aquatic resource impacts, and reduce the strain on the limited resources of the agencies for review and compliance monitoring for non-bank mitigation credits.
Benefits to the Developers and Landowners
Purchasing credits from an approved mitigation bank allows permit applicants, typically landowners or developers, to eliminate expenses and long-term liability associated with on- or off- site mitigation. Project expenses include suitable land, engineering reports, wetland studies and the physical work necessary to preserve, restore, enhance, create and ensure the long-term success of wetland and streams. Mitigation banking allows a permit applicant to offset unavoidable and permitted environmental impacts by purchasing wetland and stream mitigation credits from an approved mitigation bank that services the impact area watershed. This process can save permit applicants significant carrying costs, in addition to the costs associated with identifying and designing a mitigation site. Mitigation credits can offer clarity around regulatory approval and timelines for permittees.
Purchase Stream & Wetland Credits
Through successful implementation of restoration activities, a mitigation bank generates credit releases from the Army Corps of Engineers. Each mitigation bank will generate credit types dependent on restoration, enhancement, or preservation of the project site’s natural ecosystem.
